What distinguishes Ganz is its bespoke approach to every project. Each transformer, motor or generator is designed around a customer’s specific operating realities, whether for a utility grid, an industrial plant or a high-voltage testing facility. Around 15 percent of its workforce dedicates time to engineering and design, ensuring each solution combines technical rigour with practical economics.

Engineers create and validate electrical and mechanical designs with customers before procurement begins, in parallel with detailed production planning. Strict quality control is in place for incoming materials and manufacturing processes, while completed units undergo comprehensive factory performance tests before delivery. Ganz often oversees delivery, on-site assembly and testing, ensuring commissioning proceeds without delay. Typical timelines span six to twelve months for rotating machines and fourteen to eighteen months for transformers.

Beyond manufacturing, Ganz’s service division provides planned, corrective, preventive and condition-based maintenance across the entire equipment lifespan. Refurbishment programmes often extend operational life by ten to fifteen years, which is vital given today’s extended lead times on new units. The Hungarian facility includes a dedicated testing laboratory, strengthening equipment reliability and providing diagnostic services for third-party assets.

Environmental responsibility has become central to Ganz’s competitive strategy. At its Hungarian plant, a 2-megawatt solar farm featuring 4,040 panels and hybrid energy storage ensures continuous renewable energy use, even during nighttime operations. These improvements advance the facility towards EU net-zero targets. Designs are optimised for regulatory compliance and energy efficiency, while digitalised processes make production planning more efficient. It has resumed in-house production of welded steel structures, improving quality control whilst reducing environmental impact through shortened supply chains. Complementary measures include waste reduction, increased use of recyclable materials and water optimisation programmes protecting local groundwater.

Recognising the critical importance of smart infrastructure, Ganz has developed comprehensive digital solutions for new installations and ageing assets. It adopts Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen’s ISM-based ETOS system to create robust automation and digitalisation platforms, an approach that has proven reliable and cost-effective over three years.

Building on this foundation, Ganz launched Ganz Intelligent Solutions, covering transformers and rotating equipment. The portfolio features two core components. The Monitoring System forms the operational foundation by collecting data with online sensors, whilst the Expert System uses AI to combine it with offline diagnostics and periodic measurements to interpret the complete dataset finally.

This AI-driven approach delivers detailed asset condition assessments and ranks interventions by criticality, enabling reliability-based maintenance. Both systems retrofit to existing equipment regardless of manufacturer, providing operators with rapid, cost-effective risk management without requiring new equipment purchases.

For rotating equipment enduring decades of not just dielectric, but also mechanical stress, predictive maintenance strategies combined with digital platforms enable operators to anticipate issues before failure, avoid unplanned downtime and reduce total maintenance costs.

We have launched the Ganz 2030 Development Programme to modernise facilities and expand production lines, focusing particularly on high-voltage equipment, as well as Small-Medium Power Transformers (SMPTs), which are essential for stabilising and distributing energy across various industrial and utility sectors. As of rotating machines, in 2023, the company started the Rotating Machine 2.0 program, aimed at upgrading tools, equipment and the complete machinery fleet used in rotating machine production by 2026.

Ganz recently delivered a 4.7 MW synchronous motor to a Slovenian hot rolling mill, replacing a competitor’s unit with seamless integration. It also designed three 9.4 MVA hydrogenerators for a European turbine producer, now bound for a central Philippine hydropower plant. Beyond these flagship projects, Ganz supplies asynchronous motors for cement plants, heavy-duty machines for shredders and specialised generators for high-voltage testing facilities.
